After getting my degree in fine arts, I explored several mediums over the years, including childrenswear screenprinting, painting, jewelry, handpainted baby clothes, and stone sculpture. As much as I enjoyed and benefited from all these experiences, I knew I found my true passion when I started working with clay about 15 years ago.
Inspired by the endless amount of textures in nature, and wanting to reproduce and combine them into an original, tangible form, clay became a perfect medium for me to express myself.
From the irregular structure of tree bark and leaves, to the more symmetrical pattern woven in lace and burlap, or simply inscribing my own design, I look to create a multiple dimension in each piece by using these elements as impressions. Being such an ancient craft, it seems natural to utilize these textures to appear as fossils in the clay. Choosing glaze colors reflecting nature, then enhancing them with details such as leather and beads, I am constantly challenged to create a unique and functional piece that shows balance, proportion, and interest to all that view it.
