My pieces are handbuilt and developed into a unique original form that is both functional and artistic.
Most of my pottery is kiln fired. The greenware clay piece is bisqued fired in an electric kiln and then refired once the glazes have been applied. This stoneware is durable and food safe using lead free glazes. The most exciting moment of the process is unloading the kiln to see if my glaze combinations came out as I had imagined them.
Raku is another method using propane gas, and firing up the pieces in a large container. After about an hour of heat, and when the copper based glazes mature, they are transferred to a vessel containing a bed of combustible materials. The results have a blackened, metallic, and iridescent luster which gives them a unique, primitive quality.
